Articulate Storyline is a desktop-based eLearning authoring tool used to create interactive courses, software simulations, branching scenarios, and assessment-based learning. It is widely used in workplace learning where greater control and interactivity are needed than simpler authoring tools can provide.
This page is kept as a general reference within Nom@d Learning’s Training Solutions and Tools section. I have used Articulate tools in the past, but I do not actively use Storyline in my current workflow, so I recommend checking Articulate’s official resources for the latest product information, system requirements, and pricing.
Where it can help
- Creating highly interactive eLearning beyond basic slide-based content.
- Building branching scenarios, knowledge checks, and guided simulations.
- Publishing learning content for LMS delivery, including SCORM-based environments.
- Supporting structured digital learning in organisations that need custom course design.
Things to consider
- Storyline is a more specialised tool and has a steeper learning curve than lighter authoring platforms.
- Not every learning problem needs a fully developed interactive module.
- Tool choice should follow the learning need, learner context, and available capability.
Important note
Older references to Storyline 3 are now dated. Articulate ended support for Storyline 3 in December 2024, and current development continues through Storyline 360 as part of Articulate 360.
My view
Articulate Storyline remains a recognised tool in digital learning, particularly for more complex interactive course design. At Nom@d Learning, I am more interested in helping people and organisations choose the right learning approach for the outcome they need than in promoting any single software platform.
